Suggested Readings To Read Through The Bible In A Year

Thursday   December 31, 2009   Revelation 22 and Psalm 150

Congratulations to those of you who have been with us in this reading plan for the past 12 months. Today we conclude our reading of the Bible through in 2009. Good News, tomorrow we get to start over again!

I think it fitting that whoever devised this particular reading schedule chose to end it with Psalm 150 as well as Revelation 22. Psalm 150 begins and ends with the same Hebrew words - Hallelu Yah! (Praise the Lord) In fact, that last five chapters of Psalms begin and end with those words – Hallelu Yah!

Tomorrow there will be football games on TV all day long. Among those games will be the Rose Bowl– Oregon vs. Ohio State. I can guarantee you that during those course of that game and at the end of the game there will be people lifting their voices, clapping their hands, maybe even jumping and dancing . . . and yes there will be a band playing the school fight song . . . as the fans give their team their support and accolades. It will be one emotion packed event . . .

The Psalmist tells us that is how we ought to be involved in giving praise to God. He says Praise the Lord!

Where should we praise him? Everywhere.

Why should we praise him? For who He is and what He has done.

How should we praise Him? With every means possible. The human voice alone is not adequate to declare His praise – so use the musical instruments . . . including trumpets and cymbals and tambourines . . . we are talking a big sound! And not only does he say to worship the Lord with good loud music, the writer indicates that our praise should come from such an attitude of joy that our bodies become totally involved in the experience and we dance before the Lord. . . .The Hallelu Yah deserves the full expression of human energy and devotion!

How long should we praise Him? Until every breathing being is giving him the praise that he is due!

As you go about your business today, why don’t you just lift your voice every once in a while and give up a loud Hallelujah to our marvelous Lord!

P.S. May you have a happy and prosperous New Year!
