Whether you are investigating the claims of Christianity or you already have a strong and vital relationship with Jesus Christ, Faith Family is a place you can call home. We welcome a casual atmosphere where people are at home in a T-shirt and jeans or wearing their "Sunday go to meeting" best.

We believe that Jesus Christ has provided a way for people to live with peace and hope, even in a world where there seems to be neither . . . We would love to help you experience the hope that only He can give.

Suggested Readings To Read Through The Bible In A Year

Monday   February 1, 2010   Exodus 35-37 and Proverbs 1:1-19

Wisdom. That is at the core of what the Proverbs are all about. Wisdom is a word that appears 41 times in the 31 chapters. Written in the form of sayings, many of them two lines, contrasting wisdom and folly – the Proverbs give to us many principles to live by if we want to be successful. A great deal of the book of Proverbs is ascribed to Solomon, the son of David and third king of Israel, who was famous for his knowledge and wisdom. Many a Christian has learned the value of reading a chapter from the Proverbs each and every day. Since there are 31 chapters, reading the chapter that coincides with the date is a great way to read through this “wisdom” book once each month.

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,

but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Solomon says that everything starts with the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is the beginning . . . in this context he says knowledge and later on he is going to say wisdom. Living right – making decisions that lead to life and happiness . . . it begins with the fear of the Lord.

What is the fear of the Lord? What it is not is being scared of God. Adam and Eve expressed that kind of fear when they committed the first sin and tried to hide themselves from God. They discovered that you cannot hide from God. They discovered that the only way to get relief from their guilt was to run to God who can provide for us the way to redemption and forgiveness. The fear of the Lord is not about running from God or trying to hide out. The fear of the Lord is to have respect

for God – to have a sense of reverence and awe. The fear of the Lord is to live with the sense of his presence wherever we are – that He is living right here, right now. To live in the fear of the Lord means that every time I make a decision that I take into account the fact that God is present - and I am living to please Him. The fear of the Lord is understanding that God is all-knowing and all-wise — it is understanding that he knows the future as well as the past, so he has the absolute best knowledge of what I should be doing next and which direction I should be walking. That is why when we get to chapter 3 on Thursday this week we are going to read Solomon’s instruction

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

[6] in all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make your paths straight.

So, Lord, as I begin this day I want to once again acknowledge you are here. I ask that you help me to walk in your knowledge and your wisdom today. Lord, I ask that you would help me to chose my words and my thoughts today — that they would bring honor to you – that they would be acceptable in your presence. May the decisions I make today be influenced by what I know about you and your word, and your perfect will for my life. Thank you Lord that I can lean totally on you for the needs of this day.
