Welcome to Faith Family Christian Center

A place where you can truly come as you are and be loved.

Whether you are investigating the claims of Christianity or you already have a strong and vital relationship with Jesus Christ, Faith Family is a place you can call home. We welcome a casual atmosphere where people are at home in a T-shirt and jeans or wearing their "Sunday go to meeting" best.

We believe that Jesus Christ has provided a way for people to live with peace and hope, even in a world where there seems to be neither . . . We would love to help you experience the hope that only He can give.

Proverbs 1 starts out with the declaration that Solomon is writing these Proverbs so that we may find wisdom for life. In Chapter 1 he directs us to embrace wisdom and warns us about rejecting it. In today’s readings in chapter 8 he once again points out the virtues and the need for wisdom. Chapter 8 of Proverbs is written as wisdom personified. It is wisdom that cries out – it is wisdom that speaks for itself – wisdom that entreats you and me to choose it above wealth and material things. Master Card has had an ad campaign for several years in which they will show the actual cost of some items and events – and then they show some touching scene and make the declaration “priceless”. That is what wisdom has to say about herself – “wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.” Wisdom leads to true wealth.

Many of the Israelites of the Old Testament (as well as the Jews of the New Testament) equated wealth and riches with the blessing and favor of God on someone’s life. In their eyes the wealthier you were the more spiritual you were. Trouble and poverty were signs that there must be sin in your life and you were being judged by God. But Solomon, a man who was an expert on wealth because of personal experience says wisdom leads to things that are priceless – things to be sought after before material wealth. As we read Proverbs 8:10-11 we are reminded of the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 6:33 . . . seek first the kingdom of God . . . and all these things will be added . . .

Wisdom . . . how do I find it? How do I obtain this most valuable commodity? It is not something reserved for the elite few - wisdom is available to anyone who will seek after it. Wisdom says there are some things you can do to make sure you get it.

1. Hear the word of God - verse 6 says listen . . . I have worthy or excellent things to say to you. Listen. Paul tells us in Romans that faith comes by hearing the Word of the Lord. Step number 1 to becoming wiser is to listen to the Word.

2. Be willing to receive instruction. Verse 10 says choose instruction. I have worked with more than one person who did not seem to have the capacity to let someone else tell them or show them a better way to do things. They are people who are determined not to grow – they are determined to show just how stubborn and inflexible they are . . . thinking it is a virtue. Gaining wisdom requires that I understand that I need to be ever learning – I need to be willing to get and receive instruction.

3. Love truth and wisdom. Verses 17 and 21 tell us that Wisdom loves those who love her. We make the things that we love a priority in our lives. If someone were to follow us for a week and watch how we use our time and spend our money they would know who and what we love. If you want to live in the blessing and the favor of wisdom– make its acquisition a matter of a “love” priority.

4. Seek wisdom daily. Verse 17 says those who seek me will find me. The best way to begin our day is with the Word of God open and our eyes and our hearts taking in what it has to say - and making a decision as to how we can do what it says this very day. Seek wisdom because

Proverbs 8:34-35

Blessed is the man who listens to me,

watching daily at my doors,

waiting at my doorway.

[35] For whoever finds me finds life

and receives favor from the Lord.
