Suggested Readings To Read Through The Bible In A Year
Wednesday April 21, 2010 Matthew 26-28 and Psalm 68
This morning as I once again read the last three chapters of Matthew and consider what Jesus endured for me, I can hear a song in my mind. It is a song that bridges centuries, as the verses were written by Isaac Watts who lived from 1674 to 1748 and the chorus by Chris Tomlin and friends at the very beginning of this century. For believers from every generation, every nation, every people group the hope of our salvation is found in what Jesus did on the cross. Today my response to the reading is to pray the words of the song writers to my Savior . . .
The Wonderful Cross
Verse 1
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride
Verse 2
See from His head His hands His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown
Verse 3
Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing so divine
Demands my soul my life my all
Chorus 1
O the wonderful cross
O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find
That I may truly live
O the wonderful cross
O the wonderful cross
All who gather here by grace
Draw near and bless Your name
