Pastor's Blog

There are two major events (and two people) that David, King of Israel, is famous for. One was his encounter with a man named Goliath, and the other was his encounter with a woman named Bathsheba. When David met Goliath he was young and fully committed to doing the work of the Lord. When he met Bathsheba, he was middle-aged and successful . . . he was at a point in life that he was more concerned with his own comfort than he was in doing the work of a king.

As we read chapter 11 and 12 of 2 Samuel there are a lot of lessons that we can learn and apply to our own lives . . . among them the following thoughts come to mind:

1. We are all vulnerable to temptation and sin. (1 Corinthians 12:10)

2. Our mind will be the pathway to or the prevention of sin. That is why we need to choose our thoughts carefully.

3. Repentance is the right thing to do to stop the progression of sin . . . and the sooner the better!

4. “Just this once” is one time too many!

While it is true that we are vulnerable to temptation and sin, the good news is we don’t have to give in to it.

1 Cor. 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
