2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
That is the verse that came to my mind this morning as I read the story of Manasseh in 2 Chronicles 33. Manasseh was truly a wicked person! He chose to totally ignore God. Though his father had been a godly man who had obeyed God and served him wholeheartedly, Manasseh did totally the opposite. If ever there was a man that you would pray that God would take him out before the whole nation is destroyed – it was Manasseh. Verse 11 of 2 Chronicles 33 tells us that God got his attention! Manasseh was captured by the king of Assyria and treated like an animal as they led him away. But something happened to Manasseh when he woke up in Babylon. He turned to God – with a heart of repentance . . . And God forgave him! Not only did God forgive him, he gave him a second chance to lead the nation of Judah. God restored Manasseh to the throne in Jerusalem.
Thank God for his mercy and compassion. Thank God for the grace that he has extended my way! Thank God for second chances! And thank God there is still hope for that ungodly person you have been praying for! Don’t quit praying . . . God has a way of getting their attention. That is what I am reminded of today when I read about King Manasseh.
