Psalm 108:1
A song. A psalm of David.
My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing and make music with all my soul.
So begins David’s prayer for deliverance from the oppression of the enemies of Israel. This song is a great model of how to face our problems. David starts out with the statement “my heart is steadfast”. He has made a decision as to what he is going to focus on and believe in. David says I will sing and I will make music, I will praise the LORD . . . and I am going to do it with passion and energy. I think that is important to see that is his posture before the victory has been given. He has taken the position that God has given us his Word, so I am going to rejoice in that promise and begin to act like it is going to come to pass. David was not oblivious to the fact that there were enemies to contend with, but he chose to “fix his eyes on the Lord, the author and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2) And because his focus was on the LORD, David ends his song with the declaration of faith - “With God we will gain the victory, and HE will trample down our enemies.”
Today, David inspires me to live like we are going to win . . . to think like we are going to overcome . . . to believe that God has it all under control! To my mind comes the chorus we used to sing quite often . . .
We Will Triumph In The Lord
Chorus 1
We will triumph in the Lord
We will triumph like never before
For greater is He
That makes me overcome overcome
We will walk in the power of His might
We will shine forth His glorious light
For greater is He that makes me overcome
