Pastor's Blog

It was 605 B.C. All the things that Jeremiah and Isaiah had prophesied would happen to Judah were taking place. The Babylonians did indeed come to Jerusalem and capture the king. Daniel was among the young and upcoming leaders to be taken captive by the Babylonians as well. What we read in this book of Daniel is some of his memoirs of the 70 or so years that he served the Babylonian and Persian kings. The second half of the book is made up of some of visions and dreams that God gave to Daniel that foretell of the rise and fall of nations in the middle east with so much accuracy and detail that some people have questioned whether or not they were written after the fact. However, scholarly study has proven over and over that what Daniel wrote was written far in advance of the happenings. Study has proven that God gave to him supernatural revelation of things that would take place. As we read through this book over the next few days there are at least three overriding themes that we can apply to our lives. In the context we see wonderful examples of how to live a life of faith in an hostile society.( Daniel resolved not to defile himself . . . Shadrach. Meshach, Abednego would not bow . . .) In the context of this book Daniel illustrates for us the power of prayer. And perhaps above all, the book of Daniel reassures us that God is in control! Daniel 2:44

And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Those words bring to mind the words of Jesus

Matthew 16:18 . . . on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

Thank God that I belong to His Kingdom and my future is totally secure!
