Revelation 5:13 (NIV)13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be praise and honor and glory and power,

for ever and ever!”

Chapters 4 and 5 of the Revelation give to us a wonderful picture of Jesus on the throne in heaven. In the chapters that follow the Lord is going to give to John visions of the judgments of God that are going to be poured out – he is going to paint word pictures of very difficult days that are coming. There will be days so difficult that Christians are going to die for their faith and commitment to Jesus Christ . . . there will be days of war, famine, and pestilence. . . BUT before all that is revealed to John, who in turn shares with us, Jesus gives to John a dramatic picture of His throne in heaven. Why does he start with this vision? I believe it so we are made aware of the fact that Jesus reigns. No matter what appears to be happening on earth, Jesus reigns. No matter what it taking place in our individual lives - Jesus reigns. There is no promise in the Bible that tells us we will not have to face difficulties in our lives. There is no promise in the Bible that we will always receive justice from men and from the system we live in. There is no promise in the Bible that just because we are Christians we will never have any pain or disappointment. Yet we can live each and every day with a hope that sustains us – we can live with a sense of anticipation of good things to come – we can live with the knowledge that one day we will win – because Jesus Reigns! So, every day of our lives we can and should join the song of heaven

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be praise and honor and glory and power,

for ever and ever!”
