Yesterday’s reading in Mark 4 ended with the question about Jesus, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Today in the 5th chapter of Mark we read about a series of miracles. Each one of these stories provide material for full length sermon (maybe even a series of sermons). However, there is also a simple point that Mark seems to be trying to point out in the telling of each of these stories.
In chapter 4, Jesus is Lord of what we would call nature.
In chapter 5:1-20 Jesus is Lord over the demonic realm and the powers of Satan.
In chapter 5:21-43 Jesus is Lord over sickness and disease, and in fact, He is Lord over the power of death!
Who is this? He is our Savior, our Healer, our Deliverer, our Strength, our Hope. He is the Son of God with all power and authority. He is the one in whom we can trust for each and every moment of our lives here and hereafter. He is the only one worthy of all our praise and total devotion. He is my Lord!
