My quality of life is determined by my choices. That is what I read in Leviticus 26 and Proverbs 2. God said

Leviticus 26:3

" 'If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will . . .

And then He goes on to list numerous blessings that will mark the life of the obedient. Solomon echoes the truth that obedience to the ways of the Lord brings about a life of victory. There is great reward promised to those who will choose to obey the Word of God. Our Father so wants us to live in blessing that He provides encouragement to obedience from every angle. Those who have wisdom are encouraged by the promise of rewards. Obedience is rewarded with things like divine provision, a life of peace, and the awareness of the presence of God. Those who lack the wisdom to be encouraged by the rewards God promises will be encouraged to obey by the punishment that He sends. When God sends punishment for disobedience we are reminded that God really cares about his people. He does not desert us. He does not just turn his back on us. He allows thing to happen that remind us that there are consequences to our choices. When God sends punishment we are reminded that He is faithful to His Word. God promised the Israelites that if they disobeyed negative things would begin to happen in their lives, and those negative circumstances could and would be reversed if they turned back to doing things God’s way. When God sends punishment for disobedience we are reminded just how much we need Him. The more we clearly understand our need for Him the more likely we are to pursue Him. Tomorrow we are going to read in Proverbs 3 these words

Proverbs 3:11-12

My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline

and do not resent his rebuke,

[12] because the Lord disciplines those he loves,

as a father the son he delights in.

It has been said before; Doing my own thing is very bad for me, doing God’s thing is very good for me, and God has a plan that works!

Proverbs 2:7-8

He holds victory in store for the upright,

he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

[8] for he guards the course of the just

and protects the way of his faithful ones
