Pastor's Blog

In the course of my fifty-some years I have learned that are some things that you can count on – they never change – I guess you could call them absolutes. It has been my observation that if you are working on a roof and you walk off that roof without the use of a ladder or scaffolding you are going to fall to the ground. Man cannot walk on thin air (of even thick air) by his own power. I have learned something in regards to the law of perpetual motion. I have seen numerous people try to prove that law is not true by following the car in front of them real closely. It happens almost every day - the car in front suddenly stops and the car behind does not have enough time to apply enough braking power to negate that law of perpetual motion. There are what we call laws of nature that we have learned are absolute. Personally I am really thankful that the law of gravity is just that - because if it were not we would be “lost in space”!

As I read the words of Moses in Deuteronomy 27-30 I was reminded that the quality of my life today is the result of my choices. In these four chapters Moses laid out very clearly for the Israeli people that God wanted very much to bless their lives with prosperity in every sense of the word. It was God’s desire that these people live in the abundance of his favor. In chapter 30 verse 11 Moses said this is not a difficult thing to do or to obtain – it does not require someone ascending to heaven to find the answers and the how-to . . . it is not a secret that is kept in a far off land and you have to go on an expedition to find it. Moses said it is a simple thing – it is right in front of you. God has given us his Word. To prosper, obey the Word. To be blessed, obey the Word. To live long in the land promised, obey the Word.. To walk in God’s favor, obey the Word.

God says there are some absolutes in this world. This is an absolute - obey His Word and you will be blessed, disobey His Word and you will be cursed. There is no middle ground . . . no third option. Doing God’s thing is very good for me. Doing my own thing is very bad for me. God has a plan and it works. So, again today I am going to make a choice – Lord, to the best of my ability and with the help of your Spirit living in me I will walk in your ways . . . I choose to obey your Word . . . I choose life and prosperity on your terms.
